Hair care (for long, thick, straight hair)

When I was younger, my mother taught me how to wash my hair. She told me to wash my hair and scalp, then condition only the ponytail part of my hair (like many others have told their children as well, I'm sure). I have recently found out that is incorrect. If you want to clean your hair and help prevent dry itchy scalp/dandruff, be sure to wash your hair, but PRIMARILY your scalp...and condition your hair afterwards, but be sure to concentrate on conditioning your scalp as well, not just trying to avoid it like I've always been taught and therefore for have done for years. After proper rinsing and combing out my hair, it always feels quite superior to how it's always felt after I've gotten out of the bath/shower over the years. I usually experience dandruff and a moderately itchy scalp nearly every month or so, but since I've begun washing/drying my scalp I haven't experienced either problem. This is just food for thought, of course, but I've been doing it for a couple of months now, and I'm more than pleased with the end result thus far.

On a side note, another thing I've discovered about hair care as of late, is that since I have long, thick, straight hair I should be using a wide toothed comb to comb my hair daily. Classically I've always used a brush to take care of my daily hair care essentials, but since reading someone with my hair type should be using a wide toothed comb, I've purchased one I found on Amazon that works awesomely. Usually every wide toothed comb I've purchased has a tendency to have teeth break off since my hair is so thick and prone to tangle. My current comb, a Diana ionic wide toothed comb, has worked out wonderfully on a daily basis, both with wet and dry hair...and has yet to loose a tooth or even crack like my other past experiences have ended up after a few weeks use.

So, all in all that is what I wanted to share. Hair care tips (who would have thunk it? ;)) that seem to work best for me. (I mainly posted it on this blog because I very rarely even use it anymore...I figured it needed a bit of attention)
